I reviewed the Eastern Athletic Club in 2010 (review is here), and while I chose to join CityView in Long Island City, the EAC is a great choice for anyone living in Brooklyn or downtown Manhattan. Yes, its layout is wacky and every room seems to echo (including the locker rooms), but the squash staff is great and the squash community is fun and friendly and often reminds me of home (Printing House). Maybe because many PHers now play at EAC. If you want to check out the squash vibe before committing, there’s an almost-monthly squash social on certain friday nights. I’m sure if you get in touch with the squash staff, they could let you in on the details. I’m on the guest list, so I may see you there.
Below are membership details…but they may out of date, so best double check with the club.
The below letter was sent out by the MSRA
Hello,
Since the announcement of the Printing House’s closing, the MSRA has been in touch with several area squash clubs who want to do everything they can to make sure that the vibrant Printing House squash scene continues to be one of the drivers for NY City squash.
The Eastern Athletic Club (EAC) has graciously created a special offer just for former Printing House members. Anyone presenting proof of Printing House membership will receive the following:
FREE squash membership (including all court fees) from now through January 31st, 2011. This offer is valued at $185 per month.
Additionally, the EAC will pay the team dues of all EAC league teams.
Any members wishing to continue past Jan. 31, 2011 will pay a small initiation fee of $99 (regular initiation fee is $249).
Membership dues beginning Feb. 1, 2011 will be $185 per month and include all court fees (billing will be on 1/15/2011).
You may reply to this email to contact EAC Assistant Manager Garrett Jones directly with any questions.
Sincerely,
The MSRA
